Happy Birthday, Harry... (Deathly Hallows Spoilers)

We saw a bit less of Ginny in the last book than I thought we might, though we got hints of her ongoing efforts, in conjunction with Luna and Neville, to keep Dumbledore's Army alive, and before a forced separation of nearly a year, Harry got a whole lot to remember Ginny by, even if her affections were cut short by Ron... Anyway, here's a little ditty in which Ginny pours out her devotion on the birthday boy, to the tune of I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song.

I'll Have to Say I Love You With a Snog

Well, I feared my heart would break
When you refused to date me.
Although you did it for my sake,
It's more than I can stand.

Since you came, my heart's been leaping
Just like a chocolate frog,
So I'll have to say I love you with a snog.

Oh, I knew things had to change;
Voldemort draws near you,
But today is your special day,
So come and take my hand.

Since you came, my heart's been leaping
Just like a chocolate frog,
So I'll have to say I love you with a snog.

Soon you'll face your final fight
And you'll brave Dementors' fog,
So I'll have to say I love you with a snog.

Yeah, I feared my heart would break
When you refused to date me.
Now you're on the verge of going away;
It's more than I can stand.

Since you came, my heart's been leaping
Just like a chocolate frog,
So I'll have to say I love you with a snog.

Cue more hysterical laughter! I think my giggles started when I got to her heart leaping like a chocolate frog...

I wish we'd gotten more Ginny in this book. I thought she might have a more significant role to play ultimately. Not that what she did wasn't important, but her role was like so many of the others fighting in the background. There was a little part of me that wished there could have been a way for Molly to come aside Ginny, Luna and Hermione at the end, when they were all fighting Bellatrix together, and for the combined efforts of the four of them to finish Bellatrix off -- or to at least imprison her in some way so she could be returned to Azkaban. Maybe that sounds like a wimp-out, but I think I would have preferred it in some ways.

Anyway, back to Ginny...I think JKR saw her most important gift being the lasting gift of loving Harry and helping him to finally have the family he wanted for so long.

Thanks for this delightful ditty! I keep hearing it in Jim Croce's gravelly tones, of course!

Yeah, Ginny seemed a tad underused, though I guess it really would've been hard to bring her in more than she was. And certainly she was in Harry's thoughts throughout his whole ordeal...

Glad I could bring a chuckle or two! :D
