Of all the first kiss scenes I have read or watched, I think Ron and Hermione's may have to take the cake. What an absolutely perfect, surprising, hilarious, moving scene...
First Kiss
This was not the time for snogging,
Not the instant for a tryst.
This was not the vision-fogging
Perfect moment to have kissed.
Not the time to start confessing
Love in such a carnal way.
Romance shouldn't have been pressing
On Hermione's heart today.
But then Ron suggested something
Indicating that he knew
It had never been a dumb thing
To be so concerned with SPEW.
At his empathetic worry
Over every kitchen elf,
She flew at him in a flurry.
She could not restrain herself.
Ron, in shock, recovered nicely;
They entwined like Devil's Snare.
Harry wondered when, precisely,
They would both come up for air.
Ron's compassion lit the ember;
This was not just for themselves.
What a moment to remember!
Score another for the elves!

Oh wonderfully funny! And a fitting tribute to a wonderfully funny scene! I had thought, on first reading, that Ron and Hermione's first kiss might come when Ron came back to them in the forest. But of course, Hermione had good reason to be mad at him, and had no clue as to his recent heroics. So it was terrifically in character for her to punch him instead.
The kiss coming as it did -- over house elves and Ron's growing compassion, and right in the midst of battle -- was so much better. I wonder a bit if Ron and Hermione would have gotten together so quickly if they'd had an "ordinary" seventh year at Hogwarts. Somehow I don't think so. The crisis of the moment and their faithfulness to Harry's quest really pulled them together.
Great poem!
Thanks! Yeah, adversity kinda throws things into perspective... You know this is one scene that's going to make it into the movie. Can't wait!
And presumably Emma and Rupert will be mature enough to handle an onscreen kiss then. :-) I have a distinct memory of Emma Watson, such a feisty little eleven year old, being interviewed sometime after the first movie came out, and essentially saying "ewwww" when asked about a scene where she'd had to hug Daniel Radcliffe. I'm sure they've all come a long way since then!
Hehe! Quite a long way, I'd wager! ;)
Hmmm...yes, I'd guess so! Daniel Radcliffe and the young lady who played Cho Chang handled the kiss pretty well in Phoenix, didn't they?!
