An Ode to Jo

Today, I got a nice surprise in the mail: a letter from Scholastic in response to the one I sent to J. K. Rowling last week. Though it was just a form letter, it was quite a nice one, with the Hogwarts crest on top of the paper and a small photo enclosed, and I was quite surprised at the quick turnaround. I was also encouraged by the small hand-written sticky-note that was attached; whoever read my letter thought Rowling would like the poems I sent, which leads me to believe that eventually, she probably will actually see them. Here's hoping!

Anyway, the three-paragraph letter included the following: "No matter how many letters I receive, it never ceases to thrill and humble me that people have taken the trouble to write and tell me how much they have enjoyed Harry Potter. His world has meant so much to me for the past seventeen years, and one reason is that people like you have lived in it with me." Very gracious - though just what I would expect from her. Here is a little ode to her that I cooked up this afternoon, to the tune of He's Got the Whole World in His Hands.

She's Got a Whole World in Her Head

She's got a whole world in her head,
She's got a whole wide world in her head,
She's got a whole world in her head.
She's got a whole world in her head.

She's got the wizards and the witches in her head,
She's got the Muggles and the house-elves in her head,
She's got the centaurs and the giants in her head.
She's got a whole world in her head.

She's got Hermione and Harry in her head,
She's got Minerva and Albus in her head,
She's got Dolores and Draco in her head.
She's got a whole world in her head.

She's got the Ministry of Magic in her head,
She's got the sleepy town of Hogsmeade in her head,
She's got the hallowed halls of Hogwarts in her head.
She's got a whole world in her head.

She's got foamy butterbeer in her head,
She's got sorcerers that scare in her head,
She's got books beyond compare in her head.
She's got a whole world in her head.

She's got a whole world in her head,
She's got a whole wide world in her head,
She's got a whole world in her head.
She's got a whole world in her head.

Erin, how exciting! I'm so glad you sent the poems on...and how wonderful that in addition to that gracious form letter, you got the handwritten note. Maybe Jo WILL see the poems some day...it's possible! And they're wonderful poems. Which ones did you send? (Note I include "all" of your poems under the "wonderful" heading.)

Very nice tribute, by the way. :-)

Sorry I've not had time to write. Am hoping to remedy that soon!

Thanks! Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool! I sent the Neville, Dumbledore and Snape ones and a couple others. Looking forward to more posts! :)

Isn't it great how it's been almost a month now and there's still so much to talk about?
