Hard to Go On Without Dumbledore...

Harry has to deal with an awful lot of deaths throughout the series. Here, to the tune of El Shaddai (at the request of my dad), is a reflection on Dumbledore's death.

Dumbledore

Dumbledore, Dumbledore,
What did you drink poison for?
Did you know back in that cave
You were headed for the grave?
Dumbledore, Dumbledore,
I am shaken to the core.
I can't stay here anymore,
Dumbledore.

I'm still learning who I am.
I doubt I'll pass this last exam,
For without your guiding hand,
I can't hope to understand
That perplexing prophecy
Or where those Horcruxes could be.
Oh, how do I fulfill my destiny?

Dumbledore, Dumbledore,
What did you drink poison for?
Did you know back in that cave
You were headed for the grave?
Dumbledore, Dumbledore,
I am shaken to the core.
I can't stay here anymore,
Dumbledore.

Though I'm fearful, it is clear
That I have to persevere,
Since I can't help but agree
That this task belongs to me.
You were the wisest of all men;
Won't you counsel me again?
When I face the great unknown,
Must I do it on my own?

Dumbledore, Dumbledore,
What did you drink poison for?
Did you know back in that cave
You were headed for the grave?
Dumbledore, Dumbledore,
I am shaken to the core.
I can't stay here anymore,
Dumbledore.

Lovely, Erin! What an inspiring idea from you dad.

So many of our favorite/main characters in the series walk a road of suffering. And the cave certainly seems to be Dumbledore's biggest "passion moment" right down to the very biblical symbolism of drinking from a cup, and a bitter cup at that. I think that cave scene, poignant as it has always been, will be even more painful to read in the future, now that we know what it is that Dumbledore is seeing/remembering/feeling as he drinks (as Harry forces him to drink) that terrible potion.

Mmm, I think you are right. I suspect a lot of scenes will read differently in light of the last book, and there's definitely more going on in that cave than we were aware of at the time...
